Volunteers are an essential highly-valued part of the
Gilda’s Club community and program. We could not
function without their energy, skills, and enthusiasm. There
are many ways to help – choose one or more of the volunteer
“teams” described below. Whether you are manning
the phones, leading a class, working a fundraiser or just
chatting with a member, it's people like you that help create
the magic that is Gilda’s Club.
The first step is to fill out a Volunteer
Application Form and sign up for a volunteer
training session. In that session you will learn about
our history, philosophy and programs, and take a tour of the clubhouse.
We will then schedule an individual meeting with you to discuss
your availability and how to best utilize your skills. For
more information, contact Barbara Ferrera, Clubhouse Manager and Volunteer Coordinator, at (609)
926-2699.
Volunteer Teams
Choose the team(s) that suit your individual skills and interests
-- or ask us where the need is greatest at the present time. Clubhouse
and Grounds Volunteers: “ It’s Always Something” Team
— come to the clubhouse to help out with whatever needs
doing at the moment; projects may include calendar mailings,
clerical support, and clubhouse errands and chores. Club Beautiful Team — help us keep
the clubhouse beautiful! Social Events Team — solicit, buy,
and/or pick up food and/or decorations for a clubhouse social
gathering, including potluck dinners. This team is responsible
for preparing the clubhouse, assisting during and cleaning
up after the event. Library Team — Knowledge is power!
Shelve books and periodicals, gather new materials, keep the
catalog up to date, and find new resources! Gardens and Grounds Team — lend us
your green thumb for yard work, gardening, lawn care, general
maintenance, and snow removal.
Program Volunteers: New Member Team — assist with orientation
meetings for prospective Gilda’s Club members. Program
team members must be a cancer survivor or a family member
at least one year past your cancer experience. Customized Membership Plan Team — help
create a one-year plan of action for social and emotional
support for new Gilda’s Club members. Customized membership
team members will be chosen by staff based on experience and
credentials. Workshop Leader/Lecturer — share your
expertise and skills with Gilda’s Club members. Lead
activities in your area of expertise (yoga, crafts, etc.)
or present lectures on cancer-related topics.
Outreach Volunteers: Gilda’s Ambassadors Team — help
create community awareness about Gilda’s Club by speaking
to various audiences to help us attract new members and volunteers.
Community Events Team — spread the
word about Gilda’s Club at health fairs, street fairs,
and other local community events.
Noogieland Volunteers: (Criminal
Background Check required) Noogie Team — provide supervised playtime
for children in Noogieland and participate in events benefiting
the program. Noogieland Special Events Team — help
plan and promote Noogieland parties throughout the year, especially
NoogieFest, the greatest Halloween party ever, by soliciting
donations for food, costumes, and party giveaways.
