Mandy
Schultz & Harrison Beverage When we pitched the
idea of a ribbon campaign to benefit Gilda’s Club South Jersey to Brett
Harrison Matik, President of Harrison Beverage and Steve Roach, Executive
Vice President Harrison Beverage they met the idea with enthusiasm, as did
their sales team. For
three weeks in May, coinciding with Memorial Day, businesses served by
Harrison Beverage were asked to sell our red ribbons for $1 to their
customers. Many businesses encouraged their customers to write their name on
the ribbon and tape- up the final product on store’s walls and windows. Quite
a display of red! When
the dust settled at the end of the campaign, the effort of Mandy Schultz came
through loud and clear. A resident of Villas and a cashier for the past two
years at Cape Liquor on Route 9 in Cape May, Mandy asked every customer to
buy a ribbon. And her regular customers—they got asked many times. “Nobody
could do what Mandy did,” Timothy Sawyer, her co-worker said. “And no one
said ‘No’ either because it was for Gilda’s or because it was the cancer
cause.” Or maybe it is because of Mandy and her own story because Mandy knows
firsthand what it is like to have cancer. “When
I was 4 years old I had leukemia. I finally was clear of it when I was in the
5th grade. I still participate in summer camps for survivors. This is the
first year I didn’t go and I miss being with everyone. I can’t remember a lot
of what happened to me. My mom tells me but I don’t remember. Memory loss
is a side effect of my leukemia treatment.” These
days the 23 year old is very happy for every day. In the past two years she
witnessed her grandmother go through cancer treatment. Now they go to
survivor days together and have a very special bond with each other. Thank you Mandy for
helping Gilda’s Club South Jersey! And a special thanks to Cape Liquor Store
Manager Tina Chandanais and Harrison Beverage Sales Rep Michael Lach for
their support. Introducing "Art from the Heart!" Edward Moran (American
