Emiri Nakahara
I was touched by cancer several years ago during
an annual doctor’s exam. Thanks to one very skilled nurse practitioner
with keen listening skills, she encouraged me to have my first
mammogram. Fortunately, my diagnosis was discovered in
precancerous stage, and I am, now and forever, a strong advocate for
prevention and early detection.
I discovered Gilda’s Club, of all places, while
watching a television interview of the ever-so-dynamic Rosie O’Donnell.
She was talking about the club’s wonderful contribution to its community, and
before the segment was over, I was already talking to Barbara about the next
volunteer meeting.
When I relocated to South Jersey, I knew I
wanted to get involved with the community. Gilda’s Club seemed like the
perfect fit. I never knew I would meet so many caring, dedicated, and
talented members and volunteers.
I started at Gilda’s Club volunteering at the
information table at various outreach events. Although you might hear
me from time to time answering the phone at the front desk, I am most active
with the Noogieland program. It is a humbling experience to see
life through the eyes of children… I am truly inspired by the spirit and the
strength of our Noogie members and their families.
Thank you to the devoted staff and board members
who work tirelessly to offer wonderful programs at no charge to the Gilda’s
Club members. We may not see all the effort involved in organizing all
the programs and events, but you have no idea the changes in the lives you
have made in your community.
Giving $10 has never been
easier! Just text message “Gilda” from your cellular phone to the #
85944. You will then receive a message asking you to confirm your
donation. Reply to the message with the word “Yes” and your donation is
complete. That’s it! $10 will be charged to your monthly phone
bill. Standard text messaging rates apply. Your donation goes
directly to Gilda’s Club South Jersey to help ensure cancer support for the
whole family, the whole time. Thank You!
We're
going green here at Gilda's Club! Please help us reach the right people.
